Happy Shortgirl appreciation day! Yup, that’s right, December 21st is the shortest day of the year. The days will start getting longer and hopefully, that means more sunshine!
I love the sunshine and certainly never want to discourage its presence. I’m not one to shut the blinds or close the drapes when it’s sunny. Here in Western New York, the most abundant sunshine is in the summer which literally runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Everything else I just refer to as the gray season, when sunshine is scarce. Ugh, it’s so depressing. People here actually suffer from S.A.D. or seasonal affected disorder and you can buy a lightbox or a therapy lamp to help keep S.A.D. at bay during the gray season. According to the internet, Buffalo has about 155 sunny days on average, compared to 205 for the rest of the country, so believe me when I say, I love sunshine and want more!
I was driving home from work the other day and had to break out the sunglasses because low and behold it was sunny! Yay, I cranked up the tunes and smiled as I made my way home, only to turn left and suddenly become blinded by the light. I flip the visor down but to no avail. Being a shortgirl the visor didn’t cover my line of sight, ugh! I squinted, I sat up taller, I used my free hand to block the sun so I could at least see enough to drive! I’m going to have to invest in a visor extender! But since I love the sunshine and figured I could suck it up for my 7-minute drive home and soak up some sun. I am happy to report that I made it home safe and sound, just as the sun began to slip below the horizon. Wishing you days filled with sunshine! Short but mighty, shortgirls rule!
